Some years ago Konrad Lorenz was swimming with the fish, studying their behaviors from which his book "On Aggression" was formed. Deception in nature was vividly presented. Survival techniques were presented. And so it is with our friends over in the Middle East...deception's finest group of practitioners.

If one pays special attention to the American television news presenters, those who are labeled as "talking heads" will you not see how many women are among them? Now, listen to the slanting of those stories presented about our good friends, those victims in the Middle East. See a pattern? Is there such a thing as the "feminization" of the news? If so, how is it presented?

Here's one thought. Note with the recent rocket attacks coming from Gaza to Isreal: 40 plus rockets per day in the last week or two it seems. Now the IDF goes into Gaza and seeks to stop the rocket people (men) who fire these missiles. See how the news is presented: so and so civilians are killed with a few militiamen also killed, homes destroyed by Isreali gunships or bulldozers, weeping civilians all over.

Now, ask yourself: What would you do or have your government do if you and your neighbors will bombarded with flying bombs, rockets ever day for over a month? Call the lawyers? Call the cops? Or tell the military to end this barrage? Most assuredly you would demand your government do something, whatever, to end it! Right? Right! Now see how we are presented with such attempts. We are presented with civilian deaths as a result of the Isrealis' efforts. Bad Jews! Good muslims!

Our pimps are all over pushing this crap!

Compassionate conservatism might be an enabler more than we ever realized. So, when you look at our State department, think of tough guy Colin Powell leaving...oh hell, let's just get on with this war!

Diversity rules, right? Political correctness, right? Rights, right?

Responsibilities? Common sense? The Duck test?

Deception rules! Obama, obama...your mama! On day one...she rules the roost! Castrati unite!

More interesting would be to describe the interaction of the people who go along with this and the people who don't. I do not understand how this works in our society.

The "white working class", despite appearances, overwhelmingly does not go along with this idiocy (and it's not nearly as "white" as the name suggests, in fact I've met few sub-saharan africans who couldn't be counted in the white working class, despite being just about the only truly black people in our society).

In the "white collar" segment of society there is a majority of people who do go along, but when you ask more question they are not interested in the actual situation on the ground, and you will find a small minority of violent people who use violence to emphasize the victimhood myth and ideology (and an even smaller, less violent but much more capable if provoked minority who would use violence if dysfunction came here).

I think this has to do with lack of purpose. The reason we have a military is that inside a military purpose is an extremely concrete and direct something : your purpose is, first and foremost, whatever command your superior officer gives you. All other considerations are (supposed to be) secondary. Even asking your superior officer to CONSIDER something is generally seen as "undesireable" (and utterly unacceptable in anything but a perfectly calm situation)

Not so for the leftist elite. There is no purpose. That's why they go so wildly of the mark. They can't do anything. They won't do anything.

And it doesn't matter, because they don't want to do anything either. They fashion themselves gods who can change anything at will and are "above it all", when, to put it bluntly, one even mild threat against them, proves beyond anyone's doubt that they aren't above anything - at all.

Sadly this "bread and games" segment of our population is the fastest growing segment. And it doesn't need islam to create a shame culture, it already has. Interpersonal violence is completely accepted within this culture (ie. hurting others to make yourself better, e.g. stealing, threats, and even rape).

We need a purpose. We need a world to build. And we need it FAST.

*ANY* learning algorithm that I know of that is without a purpose will start using violence to attrack attention (it will give wilder and more erratic outputs everytime it gets presented with random input). Eventually the program that was learned will erase itself as a direct result of the lack of purpose. I simulated that once in a little car controlled by a neural backprop net : it started banging the walls randomly. I wonder if we're seeing the same thing in these muslims and lefties.

The left has only one response to any input - including failure of their programs: some variant of its America's fault. The world is not simple enough for a single kind of response to be successful toward the achievement of anything but failure. Failure even by the standards (such as the are) held by the left.

PS: Incidentally the workings of Ashby's Law is why the free market is successful and why a centrally planned economy always fails. It takes every individual being free to act in his own best interest in his own personal context to have enough variety to deal with the complexity of the world. Success is not guaranteed by a free market but central planning guarantees failure.

Look closer at home. The incident I am about to describe happened in Philly last week.

Some black high school student got severely beaten by a bunch of black youths from a close by, different high school, all becaue the victim showed high academic achievement. He was taught a lesson of 'not acting white'.

Even here, when people were trying to break out of the 'victimhood' mold!

The societal pressure in the Palis must be just as great (or even greater) to maintain the 'we are all victims of circumstance'. No matter how many opportunities they were given 'to get out of jail/hell' freely.

Just you wait, for other minorities to copy the free rides. For example, why should only Palis get free passes? How about those billions and billions of Chines, Indians, etc.? When they start the 'we were oppressed' card, and start setting cars on fire, how much are euros and US going to fork out freebies?

I think just "The State Department" is enough here. No administration has control over the State Department including the actual Secretary of State. They do as they please regardless of who is in office and only seem to do an administration's bidding when they are ideological soulmates (i.e. liberal Democrats).

Don Miguel: I think that you are on to something. In the midst of reading Kenneth Timmerman's Shadow Warriors, I am struck repeatedly with examples of the subversion by rogue elements in the State Department, in the CIA, and even some elements in the Pentagon to work at cross-purposes with the Bush adminstration particularly and to appease the Arabists at the expense of Israel.

Nations in the ME have used the "Palestinians" for their own purposes of fanning hatred toward Israel and the Jews. None of these nations have welcomed the "Palestinians"; instead these perpetual victims are used in a proxy war to assure dominance by Muslims and to eliminate the Jews. Money that could be used for food, medicine, schools, and infrastructure continues to be channeled to weapons and destruction.

I have the sense that if the whole of Israel were annihilated and the Jews were forced out of the Middle East, the "Palestinians" would still be engaged in their internecine, fruitless warfare.

The claim that Israel is destroying the Palestinian economy is particularly irksome and illustrates the mindset so well described in the post.

I lived in Israel from 1973-76, southeast of Haifa. Access to and from the West Bank was easy. I would sometimes catch a West Bank jitney or bus into Haifa or back home. Occasionally there would be a security check but usually not. I went into the West Bank several times, and not on Israeli transit, and again security checks were generally perfunctory. Every morning and evening I would see buses and other vehicles taking Palestinians to and from jobs in Israel.

This wasn't just my observation. By every socio-economic factor imaginable--education, infant mortality, per capita income, etc.--the administered areas were among the fastest growing parts of the world during that time. Of course there was some exploitation but many of the Palestinian workers were fully subjct to the protections of Israeli labor law and benefits.

And the Palestinians threw it away...knowingly, consciously, deliberately. If there is a symbol of their intentional self-immiseration let it be the greenhouses in Gaza. These were multimillion dollar, state of the art facilities, left behind afterthe withdrawal, that could have provided jobs and export income.

The greenhouses did not last twenty-four hours after the Israelis pulled out, literally not a day. They were destroyed by exultant, jubilant mobs.

But as the main post points out, the Palestinians have no reason to reflect on this. No one--not the west, not their fellow Arabs, not themselves--ever calls them to account.
