Get yer ya-yas out!

Gravatar If one didn't know any better, one would think "Hey You" has practically the same backing track as "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet", minus the killer lead guitar work. And if one didn't know any better, one would think that was ZZ Top's Dusty Hill singing lead on "Let It Ride". Interesting similarities in both cases. BTO was one of those good but not quite great '70s bands, hence their rather short shelf life.

Gravatar I remember watching the PBS show on Mormons but must have missed the interview w/Bachman. Couldn't think of any of their songs so I played a few on Rhapsody. Now I remember why I wasn't a big fan.

Gravatar I have to rely on the radio to hear BTO. We don't have any of their stuff. I never knew about the Mormon connection -- it isn't something you'd normally associate with rock and roll.

Gravatar The Osmonds are by far the most successful Mormons in the music field - of course, they're not something you'd normally associate with rock 'n' roll, either.

Mormons are a bit more prominent in country music. Members of the LDS church successful in that genre include Gary Allan, Diamond Rio and SheDaisy. Last year's American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is Mormon. Warren Zevon was brought up in the LDS church, but didn't practice the faith as an adult. And Gladys Knight, of all people, converted to Mormonism in 1997. That pretty much sums up the list of Mormons in rock/pop/soul that you may have heard of.
