Jersey City: thats because everyone's driving a stolen car. Ya wanna be on your best behavior in a stolen from from Jersey City; and get back to Newark asap without attracting a lot of unwelcome attention.

Atlanta's got bad traffic, but not the worst drivers I've experienced. No, that honor would have to go to Boston. I hated every minute of Boston driving.

Oh, I agree with Christie, Boston drivers are horrible.
Out here, there is such a huge volume of traffic that it is amazing there aren't more accidents.

I've heard similar things about Boston (#34). Friends who have visited Boston tell me the best thing to do there is park the car and walk. It's a beautiful old city, great for walking, and all the major points of interest are close together.
Living and working there, of course, is another matter entirely.

Finally, being known for something halfway decent. Good drivers and kickass sweetcorn...come on over, folks!

I spend a lot of time in heavy trucks where something like the amount of time given the changeover from green to red at an intersection can go from nuisance to violating the laws of physics to achieve compliance : in winter icing conditions even regular traffic can be faced with that.
Road engineering and traffic laws do make a difference. Situations which conspire to violate 'flow dynamics' are the worst offenders. If you slow traffic to unreasonable levels, individual separation is lessened. Changing erratic flows are more difficult to predict and maintaining approximate parity with other vehicles' speeds less likely - causing problems with passing traffic 'fitting in'.
All this while dealing with squalling kids and now cellphone distractions. Add in any unfamiliarity with local conditions and it's no wonder the challenge overwhelms people, especially the tired.
It isn't just the drivers.

I moved from TX to Charlotte and drivers around here scare me! I can see why they made the list of the worst. I pray more in my car than in church!
