Congratulations on your escape. You obviously had the skills on tap that enabled you to navigate your escape route.
That's the essence, isn't it? To me accepting the risk also obligates me to find a way to manage it. You mentioned risk versus reward. I think of it as investing.
I invest resources into developing physical skills and mental strategies. If I do it right, the investment comes back to me with interest. I'm okay with investing in slightly riskier stocks. We just need to avoid being reckless!

I think as long as you suit up in the proper riding gear and aren't out there encouraging danger (i.e. hotrodding/popping wheelies/etc.) then you are doing all that you can. The rest is in fate's/God's/your higher being of choice's hands.
