Gravatar Grand Central was all it was hyped up to be. I was just so impressed by its central nature in the City. Not only was it the hub of the subway system but of the people. too. A place to eat, a place to shop, even to buy grocery for dinner at home. There are magic in a place so central to people.

Union station is missing that. Its glory day gone and pushed to the wayside. It is holding on to the legacy and it's true unknown glory as central hub of all freights bound to rest of the US.

There is an ounce of hope left though. Metro system is in Quagmire. Our politicians has no will to make it work. But if they can wrap the Metro around Los Angeles's world famous beaches, Union Station will live again. Union Station to Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan, LAX, Redondo, All the way to Long Beach, Huntington, Newport, Laguna to Dana Point. Poohaha! That's will be the day for Southern Californians. A new hayday for Union Station as a hub to magnificent landmarks of Southern California.

Gravatar Little known fact: The gorgeous ceiling of the waiting room is made of cement!

I disagree with Jonathan about the key to making Metro successful. While a metro to one or two beach cities would be good, we also need more extensive lines inland, East LA and the San Gabriel Valley. These communities are growing, and lines these directions would serve more riders.
