IN 2006 Doolittle won by the skin of his teeth in what was supposed to be a cake walk for him.
As Lt. Col. Brown put it "No Republican will ever take the 4th District for granted again!"

Here's a reality check for the Peanuts gang:
Charley Brown came as close as he could to getting Doolittle's seat in 06. Now that John Doolittle has been pushed out this district will stay GOP.
Charley Brown succeeded in what he originally stated was his rationale for running for this office despite never having run for anything else previously including dog-catcher -- he thought the district deserved better than the allegedly corrupt Doolittle. It is 08, we are rid of Doolittle and Brown can go back to clerking at the police dept.

And here's a reality check ? for you, sweetheart, Congressman Charlie Brown, CA- 04, Lt Col, retired, USAF, will be taking office in January 2009.
Because it isn't just "allegedly" that applies to the word "corrupt" when it comes to Republican Doolittle. This has been so well documented there are only perhaps 10 people left in the country clinging to this ridiculous assertation, so counting John, Julie, the 2 offspring, 3 lawyers, Aanestad, and Tiny Tim Leslie, that leaves one more...
... a nervous campaign or PR hack from one of the other imported Republican candidates who is now having a toddler tantrum that not only do they have to go thru a Republican Primary but a General Election in the fall.
Last Friday's Headline:
"Greenberg Traurig and Jack Abramoff Indicted On Guam"
Is that a subpoena in your pocket or are you just glad to see your lawyer?

Win or lose Charlie Brown made a couple pretty good points. Given the right situation at least some of the people will forget partisan politics and it is possible for grass roots campaigning to put up a good fight against big money. It restored my faith in the system a bit. Heck that alone may be worth my vote in November. The way this primary is going forgetting partisanship could get habit forming.

Charlie Brown is a decent, centrist Democrat who could have easily fit into the Republican party before it became a Neo-Con religious cult with an oozing substrate of influence peddling. He is no phoenix, but would be a hard-working and honest rep. Only the Doolittle hate machine could have cast him as belonging to the far left.
Now the local Repubs (who are still the majority in the district) get to choose between a carpet-bagging career pol (with way-right credentials) or a homegrown centrist. My guess is that they will go with ideology, but I'd love to find I am wrong. It's about time to get over this hellish partisanship thing - if we want to get this country up off the mat.

Everyone reading this blog should take a walk over to Red County and follow the Placer blog. Hilarious! The fight between the McClintocks's and the McOse's is truly epic!
Aaron Park is publishing every piece of dirt he can either dig up or make up on Ose three or four times a day. Then some anonymous Ose poster responds and a fight breaks out that makes a playground scuffle look mature. Many of the people posting on the site are Republican political leaders and consultants yet the level of dialogue is completely juvenile. No one is talking about real policy--it's all about God, guns and gays (and taxes).
From what I have seen so far (and I have done some research), the two front-runner Republican candidates have nothing new to say. I don't know...this district is bright red...but with the Republican Party beaten down nationally and the likelihood that McCain will face Obama (and not Clinton, the best get-out-the-vote incentive Republicans could have) I don't see a very big red turnout in CD-4.
If McClintock gets the nomination then it will be very interesting to see if the voters think it's more important to have a local moderate like Charlie than a very conservative Southern California career politician represent them.
If Ose wins the nomination there will be even less reason for red voters to turn out because they won't see much difference between Doug and Charlie after the McClintock Campaign does its dirty work during the primary.
I wouldn't bet a full paycheck on it but I think Charlie's odds are still pretty good in 2008. Sorry, Art.
