Good weekend so far. The Twins play Detroit Tuesday afternoon for the American League Central. Detroit used Verlander, their Ace, to beat the White Sox on Sunday. (The Sox has two on and two out in the eighth, center fielder Granderson made a great diving catch to end the inning, Detroit went on to win by a score of 5-3). Twins crushed Kansas City in the three game sweep, 13-4.
No matter who wins Tuesday, it was a good end to a mediocre year in the American League Central. I hope the Twins win, but if Detroit goes, then I'll cheer for them. I do not hate Detroit, and like you, I like Leland. Did you know I lived in Detroit in 1964? I went to some games and saw Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Bubba Phillips, Mickey Lolich. What a thrill. I grew up in Chicago and also have seen Ernie Banks, Billie Williams at Wrigley. I've seen Hammerin' Hank hit one at Wrigley. I love baseball.
In football, The Bears scored 48 points. I know it was against Detroit, but so what? Any given Sunday any team can win. Like Chris Berman says, "That's why they play the games" Tonight is the big border battle showdown. With all the Brett Favre stuff, it oughta be good, but the real rivalry in the NFC Central is Chicago/Green Bay. The longest rivalry around. Minnesota is a freakin' expansion team!
I'm cheering for Green Bay all the way in this one. I hate the Vikings. Always have, always will. Favre is the best quarterback ever probably, but since he plays for the Viqueens, fuck him! Even though we lived in Minnesota for many years over the past 35 since we left Chicago, we never liked the Vikes. Twins, Okay, Vikes? Never. Minnesota Wild with a new head coach this year. Hopefully more offense. Jacque LeMaire was too defense orientated and too conservative. Hope they do good. Season starts Tuesday.
