I was at the screening in L.A., in line with a couple of guys who worked in the production of the movie. According to them, FOX still has the TV rights to the property while Universal has the movie rights. At this point in time, there is virtually no chance that FOX is going to reactivate the series. I might have some hope, of which those guys had none, that if the Series DVD set experiences a big jump in sales after the movie then FOX might give it the green light again.
BTW, did you get any special treatment for being a regsitered blogger? The Universal guy I spoke with just shrugged and told me to get in line. Gamer | Email | Homepage | 09.27.05 - 6:12 pm | #

I dunno Gamer, Family Guy had no chance in hell by most reports, but its stint on Cartoon Network and brisk DVD sales brought them back from the grave. And with immediate replay rights to CN to boot.
Fox is out for the dollar. If a network like Sci-Fi could offer enough money or a decent percentage off the top, toss in control of the syndication rights, I could see Firefly return.
With some of the changes the movie introduces, it could be very interesting (Alliance influence in the verse has changed, charaters motivations altered, new pathos among the crew).
Still, with the Stargate shows and BSG, I wonder if Sci-Fi has the time/money for another drama... SCSIwuzzy | Email | Homepage | 09.28.05 - 6:57 am | #

Welcome to blog world Bleyddy, left a comment on how to do it on your blog
Look forward to you and Nerdstars take
Gamer, I've been to screenings before, this was looked a little unplanned, vague. It wouldn't have been hard to talk your way in or just slide in with a guest. Glad to have gone.
Combat Doc, now all you need to do is see the movie.
SCSIwuzzy, your review kicked butt on mine, I hope someone brings the series back.

I would have sent this in email, but I can't find one for you. It's kinda rude to send a trackback to a blog without linking the post. If you could link my review, that would be awesome. Matt Moore | Email | Homepage | 09.28.05 - 6:49 pm | #

Not sure if you know this or not,but I am so worried. I had a good friend who is in 2nd force recon over in Iraq. There are 5 in his unit. I just read this article. Do you know it this unit is the same as his?
Also, a roadside bomb killed five American soldiers Wednesday during combat in the western town of Ramadi, the military said. It was the deadliest single attack on U.S. troops since a roadside bomb killed 14 Marines near Haditha in western Iraq on Aug. 3.
The five dead Americans were assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force and were hit Wednesday while "conducting combat operations" in the insurgent hotbed, a statement by the Marines said. karen | Email | Homepage | 09.29.05 - 2:18 pm | #

I would love to see this movie soon, but that's gonna depend on the young one. It's prolly expecting too much of him to stay still and fairly quiet for about two hours. Still and all, that's why DVDs were made.
"Preacher, don't the good book have something to say about murder?"
"Very specific things." "But on the subject of kneecaps, it is surprinsgly vague." Brian | Email | Homepage | 09.29.05 - 4:31 pm | #
