Assuming the energy rebate is intended to be used to pay for higher-priced fuel, I don't understand the logic of taking money from the oil companies, giving it the people, so they can then buy gas and give the money back to the oil company?
Why not avoid the middle man (IRS)and just force the oil companies to give everyone $1000 in free gas?

How long do you think it would take before that gets tied up the courts? I'd give it about half an hour after Obama signed it into law.
I really wish he's drop that proposal from his energy plan. Nothing about it strikes me as a good idea.

My point exactly. He's making an end run around the courts by using a tax to redistribute the wealth of the oil companies. I really don't think most average Americans would go for the plan if it was explained to them properly. They like freebies, but this is so unfair it should make everyone's B.S. alarm go off.
