Gravatar Good post. I still haven't decided who to throw my vote to, other than being firmly opposed to Obama. I just cannot stomach his tax plan.

Barr is intriguing...but I still feel myself praying that the McCain of 2000 is still in there and is going to flip the bird to the GOP on Inaugguration Day.

One thing that I am trying to do is to ignore campaign drama and focus on what these men did prior to the campaign. I think McCain has a record moderates can be proud of.

Either way, I look forward to talking Centrism when this is all over.

You are definitely right on that one. Here is the latest discovery on that subject:

Gravatar I appreciate very much your conscientious decision process. I understand completely your hesitation to vote for either of the major party candidates. I will probably reach a different decision, however.

I'm a lifelong Republican but President Bush has been a disaster and, unfortunately, McCain has mightily disappointed. While I've always been drawn to McCain's willingness to buck convention, at times I have felt he was more role player than a true and thoughtful maverick. This campaign has strengthened my view and I feel I know longer really know the man and what I see I don't particularly like.

As for Obama, he offers the country the prospect of an intelligent, thoughtful, and game-changing president. While I am hugely concerned with an entirely Democratic Washington (where I live and work), I am less concerned about Obama than I am Nancy Pelosi's House of Representatives.

The third party or write-in vote is not something I choose to do this year. I've done it in the past, 4 years ago in fact. I cannot this time.

I'll be posting on my decision process in the coming days on whatshouldbe.com.

Gravatar Since my state is a lock for McCain I have the luxury of voting third party. However I will admit that if I lived in a swing state I'd have voted for McCain solely to help preserve divided government. Although if the GOP had control of ( and was expected to keep control of) either the house or the Senate I'd have probably voted for Obama.

Gravatar Interesting take on the election cycle and the personal decision making process that you went through. My state, at least up until a couple of days ago, was also a lock for McCain - it's up for grabs now - Obama will get my vote.

I've watched McCain for 20+ years, I've voted for him on several occasions - he's changed in this election cycle. The old McCain would have done what was necessary to get the GOP nod as their candidate and then gone right back to the Middle where he has lived very successfully for years, also where he cultivated his "Maverick" branding. Had he done this he may have received my vote again.

He's changed, though, he's sold out everything that he's stood for this one opportunity. Sad.
