Gravatar Before I landed in the Conservatie Republican camp, I used to be a Moderate Republican when I lived in DC during the 90's. (And 10 years before, I was a liberal Democrat, I have gone through the whole spectrum).

Moderates try and try within the republican camp and fail. Why? In the end, they have a track record of not supporting other Republicans (that happens a lot here in California), and being moderate works good on policy issues, but it does not bring out voters. Swing voters will always vote against someone, occasionally for.

If moderates want to win, be loyal, and also have strong Rhetoric to support yourself. Voters follow the artful arguement; partisans follow loyalty (my bridge for your tower).
