I live in this district. Traditionally, this district is heavily Republican, although there are large Democratic tracts. Republican Joe Knollenberg won the last election as an incumbent with a surprisingly small margin of victory over an almost completely unknown Democrat.
The Democrat who's running is Gary Peters, a former State Senator who was term-limited out of office. I would say he's more well-loved by the state Democratic Party than by the voters. At one time Peters had put together a ballot proposal that gave Michigan voters a chance to legalize assisted suicide. Voters rejected the assisted suicide proposal by a huge margin.
Democrat Jennifer Granholm released Kevorkian out of prison early since she and everyone else was under the impression that he was dying. He seems to have staged a remarkable recovery.
I can hardly wait for the campaigning to begin!
Got any idea as to what his campaign slogan is going to be?
"Abide with me, fast falls the eventide"?
That beats the heck out of "A coffin in every plot..." which was my best guess.
