I think it's a great choice for a lot of reasons. Just anectdotally, my mother and aunt, both longtime democrats and Obama supporters, are really intrigued. i think it will pain them to vote against a woman in the fall (if they do).

I'm curious as to why you think its a great choice. Its a risky play in my opinion. It may however pay off but I'm a crappy oracle when it comes to these things.

Since I think McCain has a real shot at this election, I find his choice of Palin bizarre to the point of worrisome -- and on some levels quite offensive.
There's the obvious: tokenism. He's clearly hoping she'll attract women, by virtue of her gender.
Then there's her level of experience which, however it's being spun by her supporters, is truly, breathtakingly absent. Not only does he fully undercut his own (pretty successful) argument against Obama about being ready to lead the country, he's a 72 year old with an iffy health background -- which brings his age and related concerns directly front and center for voters.
Finally, all MSM reports indicate that he made this pick with very little knowledge of the woman herself (beyond her gender and heavy social-conservative cred). Impulsively, even.
That last bit worries me enormously in a commander in chief.

Unlike Polimom up there - I didn't think McCain really had a chance...until now! I think she was the best choice and is the perfect Veep candidate. The lefty MSM and the dem politicians are trying really hard to find something on her..and all they can really come up with is "she not experienced"? Well..neither is Obama or Biden. So..it's not much of an argument.

Dyre, I like Palin because her and I are in agreement on all the major issues except for her being a bit more extreme than me on abortion.
As for her being a good pick, she's completely energized mcCain's voters and I do believe she will bring some Hillary voters on board. Perhaps one dimensional but some will indeed vote for gender alone.
