I've often thought that the problem with Jackson and the other members of his civil rights era is that they were used to tackling big, huge problems in their day and racism / inequality was so easy to find everywhere.
Now the struggle for civil rights / equality requires a much more nuanced approach and also an admission that the black culture they are fighting for has a lot of internal problems that shouldn't be ignored. I just don't think Jackson was ever able to change gears from the old school to the new school.
