That is one of the worst examples of a sanctuary I have ever seen. Must be from the "Iron Butterfly" Jesus collection.

Forget my comment. Thom and Ellen beat me to the punchlines. I'll probably think up something just as funny in the middle of the night.
Uff dah!!

There does seem to be something anti-incarnational here, but I can't quite put my finger on it. No doubt, there is something significantly different about the Resurrected Body of our Lord which was not perceptable before the Passion, but I am preplexed and leery of the 'metamorphosis' theology implied here. As our risen Lord, there is essentially nothing that he wasn't before the revelation of his Glorious Body. It is not a fuller life that he has after the resurrection that he did not have before the passion. It is not a maturity that he lacked before the resurrection. His powers were different. The appearance of his glory was more evident, it would seem. All metaphors suffer some kind of lack of perfection in their communication of truth, but there is something here that seems just plain wrong.
The comments about drawing men, (I presume Father-Blogmaster specifically means "viri") are right on target. This seems a mockery of the sublime mystery of the altar, which would only serve to dis-affect the manly temparment which would want to associate himself with Christ's suffering and sacrifice which leads to resurrection, glorification, and sanctification of the world. "Oh, wow, let's compare all of this to a rainbow butterfly!"
I would be careful bandying about the "worst sanctuary ever" hyperbole... trust me, this is bad, but it is tame compared to some of the stuff out there.
I hope this gets picked up by Fr. Z or NLM or ???...

Carpe,
I was just kidding about the worst ever. I haven't seen them all, but I did see one in Austria which had a huge SKULL banner hanging there. And not a skull in the good, Catholic way, like in the catacombs.
A skull like in the demonic, dark, crazy way.
And that's far worse than a butterfly.

Thom: Good one!
Ellen: It does rank up there, but it isn't the worst I've seen.
Sarah: You must be Polish!
Colby: To protect the innocent, I'll not disclose the location of this sanctuary. Suffice it to say that it is not, sadly, a photoshop job.
Ma: Apparently so. I guess those Gnostics were wrong afterall
Carpe: Nicely sad. There is certainly something not quite right here.
Sharon: Probably not (on the curtains, anyway). The windows are up high, as in a clerestory.

Better be careful, someone will blog that this is the new sanctuary of the Cathedral in Springfield. You know how the internet works!!
We're still looking for a spiritual director, please commit this search to prayer. Thanks!
