Father,
One of our priests became the pastor when SSJC took over a parish north of Chicago last year - and I kept busting his chops about when he was going to remove the freestanding altar.
He would laugh and say that any good pastor knew not to make any changes for a year after coming to a new parish.
The other day (less than a year, I might add), I received an e-mail from his informing me that the freestanding altar had "ascended last Thursday to parts unknown."
He said he had had nothing but positive, happy comments. He had been giving a series of homilies for a while about ad orientem, so that helped.
On another subject, could say a quick prayer to the Holy Spirit for me regarding a "situation?"
[Rolls eyes.]
How do I get myself into this crap?
Aye yi yi.

A quote I will never forget: "Every priest looks like Jesus from the back." That said, I despair of ever seeing a Mass said ad orientem in my diocese except for the occasional EF at which I am able to assist. *sigh* Ah well, at least we don't have giant puppets!

Alas, Ma, I'm not the pastor. I'll certainly say a prayer for you.
That's a great quote, Peter!
