The thing is -- the Royal Navy would be a stout fighting force, as you put it, "if called upon." The problem with the modern British is that "if called upon" caveat you drop. They don't call upon the splendid capabilities and superb training of their military organizations, and don't remember or revere their own history.
Makes the heart weap. I think of Lord Howe, Nelson, Broke, Rodney, and British naval history generally ...and how those people would make short work of the loons presiding over matters there now.
