Excellent update. If only there was such a thing as an open and candid debate on Sea Basing, or a rational discussion of what Global Fleet Stations 'could' be.

Given that RO-ROs are prone to sudden sinking if they get flooded, it seems to me that Military Sealift ships need to be built to standards much tougher than those set forth for commercial ships.
What would happen to one if it were to incur mine damage like that suffered by the Tripoli, or perhaps even more severe damage from a torpedo hit?
Seems to me that the loss of even just one ship full of such critical cargo could have a catastrophic impact on the outcome of a military campaign.
This is especially true now that many expect MSC sealift to supplant purpose built expiditionary assualt ships:

"Here’s the bottom line: the notion that commercially designed, MSC-crewed ships should be part of the assault echelon of a JFEO in a contested littoral may be a potentially dangerous one. It is a notion based on concept studies and
Power-Point briefings prepared primarily by people with no experience whatsoever in amphibious operations or seabased forcible entry operations in littorals defended by guided weapons.
