Thanks for sharing this. I also read Spiegel and Focus, but I missed that part out.
I had no clue that Bush had his hands on this disaster. I can't believe that he cut the funds.
But we all see that Iraq has a bigger priority then anything else.
What the hell is going on in America? 9/11, Afghanistan and the whole Terrorist bullshit. The next step would be that the US will use nuclear force to "clear" world of "Terrorism".
Iran, North Korea - be prepared for Anglo Saxon force.

I can't belive all this! What's going on! They spend 400.000.000$ for military expenditure, millions for Iraq, and what about their own people?
That's a real shame and it even makes me more angry when I see those poor people.
"Looters will be shot", my goodness.
http://www.stern.de/politik/ausl...html?nv=fs&

This is crazy! Police and Army get ready to shoot their own folks. They need water, food and medications!! I can't believe this.
Elite soldiers have been sent there to manage the situation. Soldiers who have just got back from Iraq, and they got one order- to kill their own people!
The bottom line:
"Republicans want to give up New Orleans". Dennis Hastert: "It doesn't make any sense to invest billions of reconstruction, because the city is under the water level"
http://www.handelsblatt.com/pshb...ot/0/
index.html
Bush rejected foreign help, while Scott McCormack pledged and welcomed any international help! "We'll take every support we can get".
Not forget to mention that these countries were the first ones who offered help. But these are the ones who had trouble with the US. France, Germany, Russia and China.

I think that if this 'neocon'(thats the word right? I'm not from the US) faction continues to rule. They will eventually bankrupt America. Much like the Soviet Union eventually was goaded into bankrupting itself.
This will cause alot of suffering for America's poor and middle class. But it could also lead to a US that will be forced by circumstances to be more cooperative. And I'm sure America will recover eventually. And if by the time it does its within a union with the rest of the world it'll have been for the best.
That said... No reason America couldn't be an upstanding cooperative nation without bankrupting itself. As the help offer shows, none of us really hate America. We never did!
We just hate some things America does. And not being Americans, we obviously wouldn't share any America über allesch attitudes that a few of these fanatic 'patriots' and 'neocons' seem to have.

America is already bankrupt. The huge military expenses since after the 'US global war tour' - WW2 have rapidly increased, and no one seems to be interested where the money really comes from. There're a lot hidden black numbers that we will never know.
America, Germany and Japan are the biggest credit borrower, on the other hand they are the leading economy nations with high corruption.
America and cooperative? The USA is the mighty power house nation in this globe, and it does everything to maintain to be no.1. President Bush cannot accept any 'support' because we're talking about America, a high industry nation with the biggest economical and military power. Bush doesn't want to express a sign of inability! Apprarently this country needs help, regardless from who.
They have to drop their ego and nationalism. Bush would cut his finger before the US government requests any help from France, Germany, Russia and China!
Keep in mind that there's a lot politics and tactics behind all this.
A little bit off topic, when we look back when the Russian mini submarine couldn't get up, they needed help. European countries were the first who signals to help. The Russians couldn't effort a 2nd national Submarine disaster like the Kursk incident. Believe me, they hated to take any help from Westerners, thus it's embarrasing for them that they could not even rescue their own people!
Does a super power like the US require any help? 'Speaking from the perspective of a US neocon'.
My personal view: The administration should not wait any longer and 'request' oversea support. I don't know how the conditions look like for France, China etc. But the Germans will immediately send first aid, relief organizations, IF the government 'requests' for help. By the way Schröder just released the national strategic oil reserves...
"But which neocon will ever request help from "Froshlegs" and "Sauerkrauts"- the two leading countries who declined the Iraq war.
And who the hell would accept any help from Canada, c'mon".
Here's a full list of supporters who are willing to help the people:
Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Guatemala, Paraguay, Belgium, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Italy, Guyana, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Lithuania, Spain, Dominica, Norway, Cuba and Bahamas.
A Neocon's view:"We wont take any help from those dwarfs, we're the police nation and we'll fix our problem by ourself..."
Final conclusion from me: This is not only about US/Americans, this is about people require urgent medical care, water, food and safety. Humanity comes first before Nationality.
If the local, national and government officials fail to handle the situation- they must not bloc

Kathleen Blanco- Does it make sense to bring elite soldiers there? Most of the regular soldiers are in Iraq anyway.
I agree with her, they know how to kill, but they have no singel sence how to handle such situation and how to treat their own American people.
A country which is able to produce massive weapons, who can deploy troops and tanks within hours and days- they can't help their own people.
They need more trucks and helicopters, where the hell are they?!
