What I don't get is why we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. and not GEORGE WASHINGTON OR LINCOLN'S BIRTHDAYS SEPARATELY. Of course their birthdays are on the same day.
o_O

actually, in california we do celibrate washington's and lincolns birthday seperately. we get two mondays off

the phone tapping with out court aproval is complete bull shit

Yeah, unwarranted spying really takes a huge dump on our civil liberties. If it was really THAT effective to protect citizens than the courts would've approved it anyway. I mean, what would've been lost by submitting these spying requests to the judicial branch? Nothing -- unless he's not telling us the whole truth....

I wonder what the libertarians think.

Bush really should have gotten a court approval. I mean , now , the goverment could be looking in on these comments! omg!

“The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.” - Benjamin Franklin

The public are sheep. And sheep get slaughtered.

That is all.

pfff

celebrating the birthday of someone who did something....

just call it a day off...
don't abuse people like lincoln

your nationalisme is overheating

Were any lives actually saved? Now that the public is aware of the wiretapping, would the terrorists really speak openly on the phone?

Why Bush should be impeached:
0. Screwing with the 2000 election
1. 9/11, before and after
2. No WMDs in Iraq and lieing about it
3. War crimes in Iraq (prisoner abuse)
4. Domestic eavesdropping
5. Hurricane Katrina
6. The war in Iraq sucked resources away from Afgaistan and we never found Osama
7. All the other stuff we haven't found out about yet

He doesn't want to get a warrant because he doesn't want any oversight or balance of powers. The one thing this admin learned from Nixon is DO NOT KEEP ANY RECORDS OF ANYTHING! George Bush refuses to be held accountable for everything he is responsible for.

Wow. Just... Wow.

who wants to discuss sec. 215? lots of fun stuff in there.
hehehe...our entire debate argument is about library record searches leading to nuclear war.... its funny like that.

With regard to Rosa Parks, King, and protesting:

I'll never understand why people get arrested when they picket the White House. Doesn't the first amendment give us the right to do exactly that? Petition the government?

Also, with regard to your question, and phone taps:

I think I've said it before, but here it is anyway. Benjamin Franklin said that any citizen who is willing to give up a little personal liberty for a little personal freedom deserves neither, and I couldn't agree any more.

In other words, I think they're bullshit, and I still want the fucker impeached and tried for war crimes.

One can only dream.

I think we can all agree that "me" is an ignorant douche whose mouth deserves to be taped over.

Of course, all the birthdays people celebrate in the Netherlands are justified as well.

my gd, drew actually said someting tha I agree with!!!

My nationalism is overheating? Oh you mean I actully love and give a care about my country. I'm curious me, you do know it's possible to love the country you're in right? If your accusation is I love my country then hell yes. I love my country and would die to protect it, or more accurately as George S. Patton put it, "the object of war is not to die for your country it's to make the other poor dumb bastard die for his."

drew, are you going to join the military?

Probably the Marines. I'm planning on enlisting first then going for an officer (preferably pilot).

me: If I recall correctly, and I do, this is in the Dutch national anthem and shows something about Dutch nationalism:

William of Nassau {German duchy},
Am I, of Dutch descent
Loyal to the fatherland {Germany}
I will remain until death
A Prince of Orange
Am I, free and fearless
The king of Spain
I have always honoured

But don't get me wrong, I love the Netherlands and this is one of my favourite national anthems.

Drew: If you don’t want to get killed in Iraq, join the Coast Guard.

Yes this is the national anthem
but there are only a few people who accesly know it

and if the know it, they only know 1 couplet

In the Netherlands we celebrate the birthday of Sinterklaas, the guy who you call Santa Claus.

And come on, the only reason you are "celebrating" the birthday of lincoln and others is because you want a day off.

And I think nationalism is wrong, it makes you afraid to change.

I don't say you shouldn't be proud of your country.

But I don't see why you guys should be proud.

Most of the world hates you guys, you don't give a fuck about enviroment(Kyoto), you can't call the USA really democratic, than you have poverty, your education system(hahaha) and so on

Nationalism is making you blind for the problems in your country and how your country is seen in the eyes of people who don't life in your country.

I'm not proud of what my country has become...

Me, this is nothing I don't realize.

We've alienated ourselves from the rest of the world, which hates us; we're one of a handful (in fact, I think we might be the only one) of industrialized countries that still practices capital punishment, we're the only industralized country on the planet that does not officially recognize the threat of global warming, we're something of a theocracy, we're pathetically behind on civil liberties and equality, and, no, we are not really a democracy.

I'll be proud to be an American the day we fix our own problems before we go evangelize to the rest of the world.

me: So the only reason you come here is to tell us how much our country sucks? Every country has problems, in the Netherlands you can buy pot. No wait, that's a good thing.

@drew: drew, if you don't want to get blown up, i'd reccomend the texas air national guard.

yep, nice & cushy in there.

ok, I'm a little late to post, but here goes....

The illegal wiretapping was probably used to spy on Bush's political enemies (ala Nixon), since getting spying warrants is easy.

P.S. - Drew, the marines are always on the front line. I think we'd all rather hear you defend Republicans than have you end up in a Baghdad bodybag.

And "me" is smart, if a bit acrid at times.

bodybag! bodybag! bodybag!
just kidding, but seriously drew, i may despise you and most everything you stand for, but i don't want you dead. besides, i have to admit, drews starting to grow on me. like a disgusting and hideous wart that i will go to any lengths to destroy.

Would just like to point to "me" that US isn't the only country that emits toxic fumes and poisonous gases into the air. Although it is the leading one :/

nuh-uh, what about china?

Nope, I think we even beat China.

USA! USA!

wow..... USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

do you need a drum player?

For the record...

The U.S. produces 25% of the world's CO2 emissions, at 5.8 billion metric tons in 2003. China produces 3.5, India 1.0, Japan 1.2, Russia 1.6, and European countries at less than 1.0 each.

The U.S. pwned those bitches.
