Youre under arrest! ...For wearing a shirt.. What the hell? Man,this patriot act thing is weird.

It was a T-shirt of Mass Destruction.

It reminds me of that time when an old guy got thrown out of Tony Blair's Labour Party Conference for speaking out against his polcies.
I think it happened in the UK a few months ago.

What is the world coming to!?

This should send a message to all the other protesters like Cindy Shehan.

"I thought this President loved freedom. He sure says the word enough."

Its pretty sad.

Ha ha ha. Thats messed up.

Actually Sam, she was detained for many different reasons.

1. Wore casual clothing after being told to wear dressy black tie.

2. She apparently had confetti that she wanted to throw down when the president was speaking

3. and finally she had a banner that said the same as her shirt, and it is house rules that you CAN NOT have any banners, signs or anything that can distract the president. (sorry porn stars)

Poppa, I dont think that's true...

http://www.buzzflash.com/contrib...2/ con06043.html

In her own words.

Beverly Young, the wife of Republican Representative C.W. Bill Young, showed up with a T-shirt that read "Support the Tropos - Defending Our Freedom" and also got kicked out. She even argued loudly witht he officers, but wasnt arrested or jailed like Ms. Sheehan. Odd, eh?

This is getting abit bullshit now.

First Amendment, what First Amendment?

We, the american people, have taken the second step on the road to tyranny. The constitution is being slowly desecrated bit by bit. It is clear that we being the only candidates with common snese must run for election. If any of you guys do run mention the ebola virus in a speech and will all totally vote for you. Unless its the number guy. Man he was annoying. Also when clinton lied to congress he was impeached. Bush lies to coongress on a regular basis and no one ever mentions impeachment. After all he is our essteemed president. Who cares he cheated to get in, screwed the american peple several times over, started 2 unjust wars (Iraq and Afgahnistan), screwed the enviroment several times over (Is it a coincedence that Cheney is a CEO of Haliburton) and is slowly eroding our constitutional rights. We, the american (or amurican) people should always stand by our leaders (Unless their not wealthy, male, white, or a republican). Oh yes and the economy is strong (Record high gas prices) we are winning the wars, (Now where the hell is osama?) and our leaders are looking out for us (Jack "ass" Abramoff Tom Delay and well who could forget W). Yes I'd say we are in pretty good shape right now. Oh right about Iran developing nuclear weapons, Hamas, and that were running out of oil. Well were all working on those. Children, just remeber to duck and cover.

Good Night and Good Luck (Sorry had to rip that off)

If we manage to survive the next 40 years I'll try to clean up this mess.

-Future President (Sorry for the novel)

*bids her time until she can move to europe*

future president please do run, you have my vote

this is really getting on the ridiculous side. this is not the america it once was, a leader of the world that everyone looked up to. we were all powerful but we enforced peace, something rarely sustained for long in the earth's history. sure we've had our shitty history along the way, but this is just sad, just down right sad.

someone needs to do something.

I still don't understand why people get arrested for peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights.

Can anybody explain that? Anybody? I'm not just talking about Sheehan's instance, here.

Well, Poppa, if that is true, and what Sheehan wrote is BS, then I guess her arrest isn't cruel.

Did/does she really get punished?

When she is going to be punished the USA is just like Iran.

Which brings me to another point, is there really going to be a war?

Well if the USA and some other countries are going to do so than....GOOD LUCK!!

ps: Yes, I also say that when this woman gets punished it is also okay to attack the USA.

Yes, they're arresting and punishing peaceful protesters:
http://www.commondreams.org/head...s06/0126- 04.htm

My wife and I kept a tally of how many times the president said words like "Freedom" and "terror" (including terrorist and terrorism) while we were listening to the State of the Union. Here are our results:

Sept. 11th: 2 times

Freedom: 16 times

Nookyular (spelling reflects the way he says it): 3 times

Terror(ist/ism): 18 times

If we look to the numbers, he is promoting terrorism more than freedom.

Funny how he speaks so much about "freedom" but then has people arrested and jailed for a t-shirt at his SOTU. Actions speak louder than words. (And we all know how hollow his words are.)

Here we have freedom of speach, etc.
We can also wear whatever we want.

The only thing you can't do is wear nothing...well on public locations

But another thing, here in the Netherlands we have those...those programs were cops bust people

When they show america its like 10 guys with drawn pistols all jumping on him while shouting that whenever he moves they are going to shoot.

They also show British cops...relaxt, not agresive, polite etc

When you look at the facts, you will see that the British have much less casaulties.

When do those cops going to realise that?

The news yesterday or the day before showed some cops kicking the ass of a man.

What if guns wheren't allowed any more so cops could feel more save?

What if punishments got down, so people didn't run away but just stopped?

What if the leaders stopped putting there friends on the top but put people who know things there?

And what if the police where trained better?

Or are these ideas criminal and do I, if I was an american, get arrested now?

Don't worry me, we're not there yet. But wait a few more years, and we will all be hailing Big Brother, and punishing that swine Goldstien.

what is the other argument here? sheehan got what she deserved for such an inhumane crimnal act, whether the reason to arrest her was unconstitutional or not? there isn't any, and i'm glad this happened as it is really showing how much freedom bush supports.

Prediction:
Bush will hide something in the new patriot act, that says he will be the king of america. He will slowly take over the world. Like Hitler, only, you know,we cant beat him.

she's got a tsmd!

It's actually legal now to arrest people for peacefully protesting at "events of national significance" in the US - it got passed through Congress in the update of the Patriot Act a little while ago. I posted this in a previous thread, but I'll repost it here since it's more relevant:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/ 0,2...,183147,00.html

Oh, by the way, check this out everyone:

http://rollcall.com/issues/1_1/b...ws/12015- 1.html

"House Republicans are taking a mulligan on the first ballot for Majority Leader. The first count showed more votes cast than Republicans present at the Conference meeting."

Hmm...

Zatheist,

Thanks for your support.

"Late yesterday, after C.W. Bill Young had taken to the floor with an impassioned speech with his wife's T-shirt held aloft, Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer showed up at his office to apologize.
Gainer said he also would ask the charges against Cindy Sheehan - Beverly Young left before it could come to that - be dropped."

From the Washington Post

this is like when woodrow wilson allowed the government to prosecute anyone who spoke out against the government.

John Boehner defeated Roy Blunt in a stunning upset signalling many House Republicans' concerns about recent lobbying scandals.

A headline quotation from the NY Times

daniel,

Actually, he kind of says "terrism".

WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING! THEY ARE VIOLATING HER RIGHTS!

I don't know...you do have to wear formal dress in a State of the Union speech.

In case you're wondering how Cindy got in, she was wearing a formal dress and as Dubya was about to start, Cindy took her formal shirt out and the anti-War shirt was under there.

So, she did break the rule, although the ARREST part was too much (the least they could've done was just kick her out)

isn't this law against the american constitution?

Because its says that you can't show your ideas when the goverment is there.

The next thing they do is arresting all senators who don't agree with the goverment.

And can anybody tell me why showing your opinion on a T-shirt is wrong?

Um...

They dropped the charges (read my posts)

Am I the only one here who is reminded of Star Wars episode 3?

Charles, she was never wearing a formal dress. She was wearing a coat... and like most people when she went to sit down (not when bush started speaking) she took off her jacket.

If it was a formal occasion, then why were several other people, including Beverly Young, the wife of Republican Representative C.W. Bill Young also wearing casual clothes.

Once again, read her own words: http://www.buzzflash.com/contrib...2/ con06043.html

um... i'm pretty sure that it is not unlawful for someone to dress casual for the state of the union speach, even if it is a formal occasion. its merely expected of you to be in formal attire. could she sue for what happened?

so... cindy sheehan said,
"Not Found

The requested URL /contrib...2/con06043.html was not found on this server.
Apache/2.0.46 (Red Hat) Server at www.buzzflash.com Port 80"
thats wierd....

@Future President: yea, thats what i was thinking too. when whats her name says "so this is how democracy ends..." as senators cheer on palpatines overthrow.

Okay, I read many news as I can and here's MY conclusion over the incident.

They escorted Cindy and the wife of the Senator (who was wearing a pro-war shirt) out because it was believed to be against formal dress rules.

They realized TOO LATE it was not.

They apologized. (yes, they apologized)

It's worth noting that Cindy had promised the congresswoman who had ivnited her that she wouldn't pull any kind of stunt such as this.

I'm not taking sides with conservatives and liberals. I'm just a messenger.

whateva! whateva! i do wat i waunt!!

This right here is a prime example of preteen (from your style of writing I assume this) idiocy. Whenever a piece of information that is opposing your argument is brought up, you end the damn thing with "whatever."

See the first definition here: http://www.urbandictionary.com/d...p? term=whatever

It's against the law to protest in the Capitol and was even before Bush. Besides, it's not like they executed her.

shut up larry. jeese, its a joke for god's sake! ever watch freaking southpark?!?!

and preteen? common, i'm already a teen. at the prime of my stupidity, i am. so, SHUT THE FUCK UP!

"This right here is a prime example of preteen (from your style of writing I assume this) idiocy. Whenever a piece of information that is opposing your argument is brought up, you end the damn thing with 'whatever.'"

"Well how do you view my inteligence level? Being a teen as well. South Park really isn't that funny just a bunch of people cursing. Ha-Ha (Sarcasm)"

I don't know about your "intelligence level". And yes, the Animated Libertarian Show is hilarious.
