This admittedly does look really cool. The reason its an exceptional piece in a sea of Hollywood mediocrity is because its not really a Hollywood movie per se, I believe at the Oscars it was nominated for best foreign film.

Yes, I didn't want to give too much detail, but it is a foreign film that found its way into American theaters. One reason may be that most all of the other movies by the same director/writer have been Hollywood films.

Saw this movie and quickly became my fourth favoirte film of 2006. Great music, great bleak and dark cinematography/atmosphere, and almost felt as if the Labyrinth and the costumes were takes out of the period of German Expressionism.

My #1 film of the year also won the Best Picture award this year: THE DEPARTED
