Actually I think he kinda missed the point on patriotism.

I think the REAL issue with Americans and patriotism is that some Americans can't tell whats patriotism and whats jingoism, and they mainly display the latter loudly and annoyingly.

Kind of like how the right-wing likes to think they are the only ones who care about freedom. (Libertarians do this too, but they're pretty much a joke, luckily. (I mean, who'd REALLY want the values of the 1901 to return? Along with the people getting black lung like they did back then, because there are no more regulations for anything.)

But anyway I digress... I think patriotism is a positive thing. But I define it as caring about where you live and wanting to make it as best a place as possible that does as well by its citizens as it can.

Jingoism on the other hand is a negative and extremely obnoxious thing. Its loudly screaming about how great your country is, putting flags everywhere, and declaring whomever disagrees with you a traitor. Whilst doing little constructive, if anything. (And unfortunately thats what alot of Americans seem to do.)

I'd also include blind, creepily nazi-like devotion to any president, and phrases like 'I love my country right or wrong.' You love your country when its wrong, huh? America uber allesch much? Thats not patriotism to me. Its just scary.

Whoa... maybe I should film myself ranting.

Who the hell am I!? Ok I'll tell you. I'm a guest author for the blog and help out posting stuff when Sam gets busy with the cartoons. I'll try and help keep the blog updated and post different things that will satisfy your guy's Ebolaworld hunger still the next cartoon comes out. Is that good enough for you?
