I think he was closing his eyes in disgust and wondering why he didn't just stay in bed that day. 
I loved talking to you, too, ql, mer, upyernoz and V for Virginia. Didn't get enough time for the chatting. Next time they should have coffee klatches in the schedule.
I wish could have been there. Atrios and Krugman and Helen Thomas! I don't think I would have slept at all. As for the teapot, short and stout, I am in good company here.

It reminded me a bit of Helen Mirren (whom I also love) only a bit more down to earth.
I really was wondering what that pose was about. Your explanation was more prosaic than mine, I think. I was thinking you were using your hands to help explain an analogy story relating to economics ("People at the high end...", "those who live on the mountaintops...", "from up north to...").
