Gravatar Fidel Castro, the darling of the American left? I swear Mark, sometimes I think you just make this shit up to get me going.

Read "Pitching Around Fidel" about the angst of Cuban atheletes forced with staying on Cuba forever or risking their lives to come to the US. Great book.

Gravatar I wish we could swap moonbats for cubans. I feel sorry for the Cubans.

Gravatar Dan Rather called Castro "Cuba's Elvis."

Olive Stone on Castro: "Very selfless and moral. One of the world's wisest men."

Ted Turner on Castro, "one helluva guy."

Katie Couric on Castro, "Considered one of the most charismatic leaders of the 20th century....Castro traveled the country cultivating his image and his revolution delivered. Campaigns stamped out illiteracy and even today, Cuba has one of the lowest infant mortality rates in the world."
— February 13, 1992.

I'm glad you aren't buying into the Socialist Paradise bullshit.
Hell, you're probably as likely to wear a GW Bush shirt as a Che shirt.

Note that the Cuban who converted a truck into a boat and got busted by the Coast Guard, later made into the US by crossing the US/Mexico border.

Gravatar Good!

Fortune favors the persistent.

Gravatar I agree with Rather; Castro is Cuba's Elvis.

I agree with Ted Turner; Ted thinks everyone is a heckofa guy.

And I agree with Katie Couric.

Oliver Stone...????

C'mon Mark..two people are journalists, one is a self-made millionare and the other is one of Hollywood's leading conspiracy theorists..and this is proof Castro is the darling of the left? Oh plu-ease.

Just remember, the left isn't always directly opposite everything the right despises.

Gravatar Dan, maybe you can share some quotes of a few leftists that CONDEMN Castro?

Gravatar So, are you trying to claim that Turner, Stone, and Couric aren't more than just a bit left of center?

Gravatar Well, JFK did try to overthrow him with the Bay of Pigs which is more aggressive than anything the right has ever done.

Couric is a journalist who gives any party ion power a hard time; she doens't worship at the GOP alter like HJannity and O'Reilly, but she didn't give HRC or Big Bill a free pass either.

Please read a copy of Eric Alterman's "What Liberal Media" which is a well documented and well researched book on media bias. Apparantly media bias is OK as long as its conservative media bias.

Gravatar JFK. The President who got us into Vietnam, founded the Navy SEALs, pushed across the board tax cuts through Congres in order to stimulate the economy and who's AG had wire taps put on Martin Luther King's phone? He'd hardly fit in with today's democrat party.

Remember that a major reason the Bay of Pigs invasion failed was that it was Kennedy who pulled air support from the operation at literally the last minute, after it was too late for the mission to abort.

As for Couric, please, she is infamous for her slow pitch interviews with liberal politically figures. She's as far to the left as O'Reilly is the right. Maybe not as far as Hannity, but she's hardly balanced in her reporting.

Hannity is not a reporter and doesn't claim to be. He's a pundit who wears his bias on his sleeve. He's also got the author of "Red, White and Liberal" on the same show to call him out.

Gravatar colmes is not a liberal. He is Hannity's bitch.

Listen to Hannity do the introduction to his radio and TV shows: he bills it as "the most comprehensive news program to combat mainstream media bias." He says everything a real news reporter would. He's not a journalist, but tries to play one on TV.

Couric, soft of liberals...ha! She'll disembowel anyone. She's pretty equal opportunity.

Gravatar You came really close to a keyboard kill with the "He is Hannity's bitch." comment.
Having Colmes on the show is a damn sight better than giving Jesse Jackson his own hour long show (as CNN did before they figured out the ratings suck. On the other hand, that did give me on of my all time favorite TV political moments).

As for Couric, all I can say is that if think Fox News in all extremist right wing propaganda and Couric is "fair and balanced", that might be a clue that you are more than just a wee bit left of center.

Getting back to the Castro thing, can you identify a few leftists that CONDEMN Castro?

Gravatar Colmes is supposed to do an interview with Crooks and Liars; the suggested questions there are a riot to read. I could careless if you keyboard kill me, but its true. Hannity routinely interrupts Colmes and Colmes, for the most part, is an emplty suit.

Leftists who've spoken out against Castro....will Bill Clinton do?

"The emigration of the Cuban refugees is the result of Castro's failed system." - Bill Clinton

(attributtion: Clinton, Castro, and Cuba
by Jacob G. Hornberger, October 1994, in Freedom Daily, a conservative newsletter.

Janet Reno, "Castro was snookering us" (on Mariel boatlift) in "Doing the Right Thing: By Paul Anderson, 1980.

Gravatar Keyboard kill is a good thing.
It's when read something that you find so funny, you expel whatever you were drinking at time explosively through the mouth and nasel passages, all over your keyboard. Hence: Keyboard kill.

Clinton was still pissed off over Carter dumping those Cuban criminals and mental patients Castro fobbed off on the peanut farmer.
Reno was Clinton's bitch. He gave orders and she shut up and saluted.

Gravatar you asked for Leftist opponents of Castro and now you're whining about my picks?

Thanks for the definintion of keyboard kill...didn't know.

Gravatar No whining on my part. I just pointed out that unlike most Castro fans, Former President Clinton has actual experience in dealing with the dictator from his days as Governor of Arkansas.

Gravatar I'm still having trouble with the phrase "one helluva guy" being associated with a brutal dictator running prisons, filled with people who have committed the crime of writing poetry, who have to sit in their own (and others) shit, and are actually tortured (the real stuff, not the kid gloves, Nancy Boy crat going on at Gitmo).

Why aren't the people protesting over the fact that a Islamfacist terrorist was allowed to flush his US Taxpayer paid for Koran down a toliet saying word one about the conditions in Cuban prisons?

I've gotten to talk to someone who spend years at Robins Island (back in day...when they were not allowed writing material, not the pampered, get your Masters in prison days of Mandella, and that was no where as near as nasty as what has been going on in Cuba for the past 40 years...
