Hell, they were growing grapes in Southern Scotland at the time of Christ.
You might also point out that the reason the Vikings called Newfoundland "Vinland" because they're were wild grapes growing there at the time. Greenland was called that because it was a "green land" at the time.
You might also want to point out to him about "1800 and froze to death"

What the Cult of Algore fanatics don't get is that Global Cooling is much worse than global warming. Global warm periods have usually been times of expansion and growth.
When it gets cool, there are less crops and people die.
