I like to ask silly questions, like "Does the risk of crime impose benefits on society?"
I gather that the statistics of crime provide us with an independent metric to judge the effectiveness of part of local government...
Though a world without crime is a world without the need for collective defense, it is also a world without the need for self defense, which I think is critical in shaping strong personal identities...
