Gravatar After watching Serena - I needed a short match.

Gravatar That was very gracious of Venus and I'd expect no less from her, but the ranking system has been question before and maybe rightly so.

I was glad but not surprised to see Venus glide through the match, she is after all the queen of grass.

Gravatar Only thing I didn't like is that while Venus defended Safina with the reporters, and Serena expressed compassion for Safina, she threw them under the bus the first opportunity she got with her accusations, well, "they didn't make the semis at the French."

Who cares about Roland Ghetto! The fans are some of the rudest and they seem to dislike Americans, especially Serena. Knowing that the Sisters prefer pace, the tournament directors played the Sisters on the slowest court they had during most of their matches. Venus never played on Center Court at the Ghetto; and when Serena played on Center Court, she won in superior fashion. Both Sisters lost on that slow court.

At Wimbledon, Safina had the weakest draw and was fortunate to make it as far as she did. The beat down that Venus gave her was inevitable. We all knew it was coming, looked forward to it, and I was happy about it. Its intent was to teach her a couple of lessons, first, that the match she won against Venus on the clay was a farce; and second, it taught her she can't really hang with the "Big Dogs." I don't think she played one top 10 player through her draw at Wimbledon until Venus. #correct me if I am wrong#.

Although I feel sorry for her now, its only because I am compassionate, and she cries a lot; but, it still doesn't make her a Champion or a top 6 player. The WTA rewards quantity over quality.

This is my ranking: #1 Serena, #2 Venus, #3 Azeranka, #4 Sharapova, #5 Dementieva, #6 Kuznetsova, #7 Jankovic, #8 Zvonareva, #9. Safina, #10 Ivanovic.

Just my two cents...

Thanks,

Pat aka/Speaklife

Gravatar I believe that Dinara is a very talented young woman who has a tremendous amount of potential. BUT she is a head case just like her brother Marat whom I have the biggest crush on. We all know that Venus & Serena should be #'s 1&2 without a doubt. The ranking system is indeed abysmal.

Speaklife2 as far as your rankings are concerned, I agree with everyone but Sharpova, Jakovic, Safina, & Ivanovic. Safina should be where Sharapova is & Jankovic & Ivanovic should not be any higher than 25!!! Look at whom they've won their titles against & you will see what I mean. I play club players whom I know could easily beat both of them. They are only ranked as high & as prevalent in the tennis world because some people think they are attractive. UGH beauty IS truly in the eyes of the beholder!

Gravatar Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the critics of the WTA only come out when the Williams win. The system may very well need overhauling, but you hear nothing but "crickets" when one of the "OVA's" win. Let's face it...It's Venus, Serena and then the rest of the field by a long. Well, how dare they be that good? LOL!

I'll give Dinara a pass on the French Open comment because she has to say something to justify her ranking after that trip to the woodshed she received yesterday.

Anyway, it's Venus and Serena in the Wimby finals again this year and it looks as if they're on their way to the doubles title again after defeating the number one team 6/1-6/2 today. GO WILLIAMS!!!

Gravatar Fyrestarrter, good day,

I totally agree with the remark you made about women's tennis and beauty. They have even gone so far as to begin to complain about the "grunting," saying that it is not attractive. This whole thing is so discriminatory against women and antiquated. Reports have been made that their idea of perceived "beauty" came into play during Wimbledon this year.
It was reported that the tournament organizers were intentionally playing more "attractive" women on Center Court verses the Champions. While both Venus and Fed have won 5 Wimbledon Championships, out of the two, Fed is the only one who has played all of his matches only on Center Court; while Venus was scheduled on other courts. I must have sent Wimbledon at least 10 emails, twitters, or posts about this to ask them to respond publically and let us know if this is true or not. I also said that if these reports are true, then the Williams Sisters should be just sitting on Center Court for them to look at. I have certainly lost some respect for this tournament because of these reports coupled with the example displayed. I did also figure that the Sisters would have enough time on Center Court through their Semis and Finals play and wins in singles and doubles as they get ALL the Wimbledon money and trophies. LOL
Anyway, to preface these remarks, I’m actually NOT a true tennis fan per se, I am however, a true Williams Sister fan, and I watch other tennis matches only sometimes or when the outcome will affect the Sisters. The Sisters have motivated me to watch and enjoy tennis. Still, just out of curiosity, where would you put Sharapova? She had been injured, but she can still beat those other players. I’m not a Sharapova fan, and I truly enjoy a Sharapova beat-down at the hands of a Williams Sister, but I have to admit that although the tennis world exploits her, she is a good player. I believe that even now, because of her mental toughness, she could beat Safina. Give me your line-up.

Gravatar Whooo, love it! I wonder how this same debate is going on the other "mainstream" tennis boards? A whole lot of denial on the part of many, and lots of excuses for these other girls not being able to beat the Williams sisters.

The ratings system is abysmal. Safina has not won consistently all year long, and still retains a #1 ranking? It should be considered unlawful, really. Where is the logic? There is none!

But you know what? This is just another day on the job for the Williams sisters. There has been controversy about them since the day they stepped up into the majors. Early on, it was about Venus' hair beads. Remember that? Then, it was about them not being friendly with the other players. Well, I'm betting that they weren't received with party hats and a welcome wagon full of smiles when they started showing some real promise and began whipping everyone's butts!
Then, there was the controversy about them taking time off to finish school, not playing the entire circuit year round and STILL coming out and whupping up on some tennis ass!
These girls have endured a lot, and still come through it all with impressive wins, and with a ton of grace, I might add. They are just collecting those grand slam titles left and right. Guess what? There are some that are always going to be pissed about that, and to those, well, just too damn bad! Go cry in your beer!

These ladies are also just reaching the height of their talent and ability in this sport. Each one has improved over the past couple years, not declined. They're still on the upswing of the curve. They are going to win even more titles, and as always, there will be even more people pissed about it. That's just how it is. But at the end of the day, you just can't beat the best. I don't care HOW you try to rig the system!

LOL about the "OVA's". BTW, there HAS to be a factory in Russia somewhere pumping them out en masse!
I swear, every year seem to be about 3 or 4 more.....

Gravatar The ranking system is the ranking system and that is the way it is.You play a lot of tournaments and win then you become number one,What about Grand Slams?I knon Dinara haven't won any but she play the most tennis so the ranking system is set up for her to be # 1 but we know who is playing like # 1 and it is not Dinara,
