Gravatar Thnk you for your very helpful post, Edwin. I don't know if you are aware, but you've become a pawn in the stateside debate over whether we want to continue using the term "blawg." See, for example, Blawg Review #42 and its first Comment (left by me). And see let's make the word "blawg" obsolete. Please join in the debate.

Gravatar First, thanks for the comments on the article.
Indeed, I prefer to use the term “blawg” to explain it and when it appears in the name of some site/blog I am citing. Otherwise, I use “lawyer blogs” or “law-related blogs”. The reason is that it better says what it really is, I think, i.e. a blog related to law or made by a lawyer in his capacity of a lawyer, e.g. not about his pet or hobby or whatever. I think it’s a simple matter of communication with the target audience and I don’t make a big issue about it. I don’t care which word is used, as long as it is clear what person A is communicating to person B. But I think in communicating with non-lawyers , or with non-tech savvy lawyers for that matter, it just makes more sense to talk about a “law related website, lawblog, …” instead of “blawg”. Frankly, even using the word “blog” is often complicating things. So, use whatever you want, but “keep it simple” for your target audience

Gravatar Edwin, thanks for your comments. There is room for both usages, in my opinion, depending on the context. I view the term "blawg" as more of an insider joke than the proper name. I write a legal blog, but I do normally use the term "Blawg" outside of conversations with other legal bloggers.

Also, if I may, your phrase regarding Blawg World should be edited to read "fifty one of the most influential", not the the fifty one most. That has been conceded by Technolawyer. As one of the fifty one, let's just say I'm glad it didn't get cut off at fifty. There are many, many fine legal blogs that didn't get included.

Gravatar Edwin, Thank you very much for your clarification. It makes much good sense.

As for the word "blog," I have been fighting that fight for a long time, trying to get we adults to call them weblogs -- a term that communicates so much more. See my essay on the word "blog".

Unfortunately, I got into the weblog world a few years after the existence of Blogger and Blogspot had already put the ugly little word permanently into usage by all the insiders. I still have hopes to get "blawg" put back into its little role as an insider joke.

Gravatar Hi,
I need legal blog rules for Canadian law blogs. Don't you write for that?
