The Education Wonks

Gravatar Hola! I sent you a short email yesterday, i think, but my mail server says it's delayed for some reason. I just wanted to say I read your blog and it's so interesting. I work in a school as you know and anything regarding education attracts my full-attention. You can email me at this adress if you have any questions. Thanks.

Gravatar I am so troubled by these acts. I live in Humble. Humble is about 40 miles north of the town where Andrea Yates murdered her children. Almost immediately after the murder the children seemed to be forgotten by so many. Voices were raised that she was not responsible for various reasons. But, she knew enough to call 911 and report that she had killed her children. She held each one of those innocent children under water in the bathtub until they died. I think this approaches pure evil in the abstract sense. We don't like to talk about "evil" in these modern times. We are too sophisticated to believe in the presence of pure, thinking, intelligent evil. If this kind of act (or the mother who recently beheaded her children) doesn't rise to the level of abstract evil I then nothing does.

Gravatar This is one subject that just burns me up! I cannot understand how any parent, let alone a mother, could hurt their own child. To take that child's life is unbelievable. I am not an advocate of the death penalty, but if their is a crime that deserves it, I believe it is crimes against children.

And, honestly, I am sick to death of these people basically getting off because we want to believe that they have to be crazy to kill their own child, especially if they are a mother. You don't have to be crazy to kill your own children. You just have to be evil.

Gravatar "You don't have to be crazy to kill your own children. You just have to be evil."

I agree with that statement completely. Many women who give birth are not mothers, they are only the holding tank for children. After they give birth the neglect begins. The "mother" often spends more time with her current boyfriend than with her children. Then when the children become too much trouble the "mother" either abandons them to the state (if the children are lucky there will be some other relative to step in) or ,in more and more cases, kills them. I can't imagine what has happened to make so many people devalue the lives of children. I'm afraid that we as a society will someday be held accountable for what we have allowed to happen to the least of our citizens.

This kind of thing just breaks my heart.
