The Education Wonks

Gravatar The voice of reason, why sue the school and bus company when it was the students who were at fault... T

he only problem is they probably don't have anything to sue for... which is really too bad!

The should still be named as co-defendants!

Gravatar Suspension from school for an offense that did not (technically) occur on school property or at school. How far does 'in loco parentis' (excuse my poor latin) go? Why were those bullies brought up on criminal charges for their assault? Those bullies should have been arrested, booked, brought before a judge to cite their plea and have either been turned over to their "parent(s)" or been turned over to the local kid jail pending trial. Until our society starts doing what is morally necessary to deal with such bully behavior, sadly, this type of incident will only continue.

Gravatar I agree, there should be no difference in consequence because it happened on the bus.

And also agree that the bus company should not be sued. Imagine if the driver had stepped in. Likely he and the company would have been sued by the parents of those doing the beating. Loose-loose for the bus company.

Gravatar I for one would be happy to see schoolroom bullying prosecuted as assault. Maybe this is tinged by the stories I hear every evening, but if these things happened on the street, someone would be in jail, as it is, they hardly ever get more than an afternoon off school and a trip to the principal's office. Before Christmas break, some of the students at my husband's school had a COMPETITION to see who could get kicked out for the rest of the day first (so they could go deer hunting!!). Unfrickin'believable.
