The Education Wonks

Gravatar Great Carnival listing. And thanks for the link

Gravatar Great carnival! Thank you for the #1 spot

Gravatar Awesome. Thank you for including me! (Can someone show me how to do the trackback thing?)

Gravatar Why in the world do all you people use the word "carnival" for these things? Where did it come from? Who started it? What purpose does it serve?

Gravatar Wow, #17. I'll do my best to promote the next one.

Gravatar You must get this sort of comment all the time, but it does behoove educators to check their facts.

The phrase "Less is More", a catchphrase of modern architect Mies van der Rohe, does not appear in Orwell's 1984.

Gravatar I just wish educators felt behooved to check their comments. I've been very eagerly awaiting an answer on this whole "carnival" meme that has sprung up across the Web.

We're only human. Thanks for pointing out the error. However, "Less is more" actually comes from a poem by Andrea del Sarto

The Folks over at Science And Politics have done a superb job of explaining the history behind, and purpose of, blog Carnivals. To learn much more, please click here.

As for the Carnival Of Education, it's purpose is in keeping with our mission which you can read right here

Gravatar Well, I know what blog carnivals are. I'm wondering about the word "carnival" itself. The term seemed to come out of nowhere, and suddenly a bunch of people were using it.

Gravatar I believe that the term "Carnival" caught on because they consist of a variety of "exhibits" (or booths) from different sites. As many carnivals travel from site to site, I'm fairly certain that their nomadic nature also contributed to the use of the word.
