The Education Wonks

Gravatar I don't think the problem is the Congress receiving a COLA. The problem is those Califrnia teachers NOT receiving one.

Gravatar Politicans are public servants, correct? So why is it that public servants need to make 3X the salary of someone whom is responsible for the education of those who do the electing?

What if teachers were to start working their political perspectives into their lessons? We could tell the future voters of America whom they should vote for and perhaps be compensated for our influence. Oh wait - that's not ethical! As teachers we are expected to put our wants and desires aside for the delivery of the greater good of the people.

Kinda like what politicans are supposed to do, right? Hmmm, so much for ethics...

Gravatar Do you *really* want *Congress* passing laws about teacher pay and seniority?

I know it seems like the current Republicans in the federal government are ignoring the virtue of fiscal restraint, but I'm one Republican who still believes in enumerated powers!

Gravatar Darren Said, Do you *really* want *Congress* passing laws about teacher pay and seniority?

You make a really good point. Congress rarely does anything unless there is something in it for their true masters, which are the largest contributers to their re-election Campaigns.

While the benefits of having Congress make laws regarding seniority are highly debatable, I think that many could agree that it's high time that our Congress-people-for-life cease behaving like some sort of hereditary aristocracy and stop evading both the law and the Constitution with word games such as calling a pay raise a "cost of living adjustment."

I've heard that Congress has an excellent health insurance plan. Just out of curiosity, I wonder how much they have to pay out of their own pockets?

Which reminds me of a joke: "You know it's cold in Washington when members of Congress have their hands in their own pockets."
