Idiot. Pure idocy. Not just back of the bus, either, but cramming too many in to too few seats.
When I was a bus-riding schoolboy (granted, a predominantly-almost completely white-though low to low middle socio-economic area) the bus drivers were always all over us if we tried to overcrowd a few seats with our friends. And, definitely not to excuse ANYTHING, but the back seats were the CHOICE seats on the school bus. You had to be in the right grade/clique to even think about going back there. Of course, it would have been quite a different story to be required to be there, I'm sure.
The only seating assignments I ever experienced, and could justify, had to do with age. Oldest in the back, youngest up front. This was common if there was a large age-range on board, but obviously was not done in this case.
Ridiculous.

Are the bus drivers in a union like teachers? Because if the bus drivers' union is anything like the teachers' union it'll take years to get them fired.

Are you *sure* this isn't from the National Enquirer or something?

Once again people only know half the story and make judgements from news media hype. Before you call names you might want to find out the entire story. Like how the kids were the last pick up and were told to find a seat. The empty seats were where the seniors from last year had been riding so they were empty. The lady is a very respectful christian woman who would never do anything racist on purpose. NO seats were disignated white or black. Would everyone stop trying to make everything a race issue. By the way one of her former black riders (who rode her bus for 12 years) defended her stating how hurt she was that Mrs. Davis was being accused of such mess. But no one wants to publish that part of the story.
