A number of school shootings have been stopped by access to pistols. I'm thinking of the Appalachian Law school murders and the case in Pearl, Miss.

I shudder to think of about 99% of my colleagues being in possession of guns at school.

I don't know that guns in school makes me feel safer. In fact I wonder if there will be accidental shootings? I don't know that I want my children's teachers carrying guns.

It has always been my contention that if, during the first assembly of the school year, the first student to misbehave during the first assembly of school year, be shot dead! Then the rest of the school year would be wonderful with no misbehaving students! Think about it, Ms Cornilus!

I'm a Texan, but have always had a fear of guns. I don't know what these people are thinking. Haven't they ever heard of metal detectors? BTW, don't forget it's Sunday, and you know what THAT means--S4 is underway today!

Guns in the classroom are very scary. I agree with Melissa that metal detectors are a better idea.

"...shudder to think of about 99% of my colleagues being in possession"
"Superintendent David Thweatt said the small community is a 30-minute drive from the sheriff's office, leaving students and teachers without protection. He said the district's lone campus sits 500 feet from heavily trafficked U.S. 287, which could make it a target.
When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. Why would you put it out there that a group of people can't defend themselves? That's like saying 'sic 'em' to a dog," Thweatt said in Friday's online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram."
It's only the logical result of school invasions in the news combined with local law enforcement being 30mins away.
In fact only a few teachers and the principle will be carrying, not 99%.
Sounds only prudent to me.

I have always said if we just shot one student at the opening assembly for bad behavior, we would have a year of very well behaved students. Think of the teaching you could do. I wonder if Tiananmen Square had anything to do with how well all those Chinese beat those drums at the opening ceremony of the Olympics this year?
