First of all, i hadn't heard about this movie, and just came here because you are on top of google results :P
About the pirating issue, remember nobody "pirates" (that's a term for those who sell it for money) something they don't like. What would you feel if people weren't sharing it?
This film will have more chance of getting attention on the p2p networks than by normal distribution channels.
Believe me, the producers of the film "The man from earth" know it, just check this out:

After people see the film, if they like it of course, they'll be more prone to buy the dvd.
Don't be mad to share, i know money is on everyone's head, but thinking that people sharing your movie is bad isn't smart
