I haven't been to Houston myself for over thirty years. My memories involve visiting the San Jacinto battlefield. 800 Texans defeated 1400 Mexicans. It was a matter of technological superiority. The average Mexican soldier did not know how to use his musket properly, but most of the Texans had cut their teeth on a rifle barrel. Also the Texans stood on an average six inches taller than their Mexican counterparts. Tex could easily reach over the barricade and whop poor leetle Pablo with a tomahawk.
Near the battlefield is the battleship USS Texas. Of World War I vintage, it participated in the Normandy invasion, and collected a five inch shell from a German shore battery for its efforts.
These items of history may not interest you at all. Evidently, they interested me.
