Centcom!?!? Sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie. I cannot believe that real human beings actually work for such organizations.
These people remind me of the gezillions of guards, etc. who work for all the Dr. No's in the James Bond films. Do they not know their boss is evil? Do they not know that 007 will incinerate them in a giant fireball at the end? What ARE they thinking?

(as one of the guys on Laugh-In would say.) I suppose for security sake have to monitor to avoid bigger problems.
Would like to see the basic salary paid whoever does it though...and the bucks going to rescue, etc. as you stated.
The road may be muddy, but they have these robot planes that can fire a missile at you, accidently of course, but you'll be just as dead.
Why is centcom doing this now? Why not a year ago? Two years ago? Is it incompetence or is something even more wicked on the horizon?
CENTCOM is a command based here in Tampa (MacDill AFB), they have responsibility for central asia-Middle East, and some others, as I understand things. The military in particular, and other federal employees in general can't decide which orders, directives, proceedures to follow and which ones not to.
Ultimately, the president is chosen by electors who are pledged to cast votes according to the way a particular state votes.
The military is offerred as a way for some young people to serve their country. Presently, there is a Global War on Terror (ok, maybe the global war is on select terrorists who disrupt some governments). Centcom probably has many civilian Department of Defense federal employees working in support of the Global War on Terror in addition to the members of the military.
Freedom is not free. Many people die in defense of freedom.
Body armor has reduced the some of the numbers of deaths, but there are now more complex injuries returning from some current operations. Other federal employees will provide rehabilitation for these wounded warriors. (This after these warriors have been evacuated out of the area and then to several military hospitals then Stateside.)
Only Muslims are "terrorists" evidently. As I have shown at this blog.
I remember when British were scared of Irish terrorists. Heck, the Apaches were considered terrorists.
The imperial armies of Europe and America never considered themselves to be terrorists despite how ever many people they killed.
And of course, only America nuked civilians.
