Elaine, I think we could learn a lot from kids in situations like this. We adults tend to only look at the big picture, but when it comes to comforting those less fortunate than us, the little things sometimes make all the difference.
Thanks for this post!

Hey there,
I came across your blog from LSBlogs and couldn't help but comment on the "I Love Diet Soda" mantra you use for the name of your blog. What a great title!!!
I love diet soda, too, at my "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" blog which details my 180-pound weight loss on the Atkins diet in 2004. I credit being able to drink diet soda as a BIG reason why I was able to lose as much weight as I did, although some of my low-carb friends think I should ditch it, too.
You are welcome to come by and check out my blog when you get a chance. If you will do a search on "diet soda" at my blog, then you will find several very interesting conversations about that subject that will likely intrigue you as a connosieur of the sugar-free bubbly stuff!
I'm glad I "stumbled" upon your blog and will definitely come back again soon.
SEE YA!

Hey Elaine-- Love the post! I think you perfectly captured two really important ideas: 1) that we can all do our small part to show our concern for humanity, and 2) when life feels out of control, it's those small bits of normalcy that help us get through it. I know at work when things start to feel completely "fubar"-ed the first thing I do is reach for a Diet Coke and try to settle down. The Hurricane victims are displaced and disillusioned more than I can fathom, but I can relate to wanting to return to some sort of routine. Surely for many that routine used to include diet soda, and maybe sugarfree gum too (another of my little vices). My local grocery store is accepting donations for the victims- I think I'll follow your lead and send a case of Diet Coke and some Trident gum today
On another note, how are YOU doing? It sounds from your post like you're feeling better. Looking forward to hearning more corporate cubicle musings soon- I love to hear fellow office worker stories!

Feeling much better. You know what has helped? I got back into my workout routine. When my boyfriend and his family were staying at my house, my routine got totally out of whack (which really didn't bother me, b/c of course there happiness and feelings b/c of that damn hurricane were much more important to me). But now I am happy to report 3 workout days in a row!
