I have a question... what makes a soda diet?

case in point- today I was at Whole Foods and saw a diet soda called Steaz. This soda had something like 60 calories in a bottle and was loaded with carbs.

So, can any drink be called diet? What is the difference between diet and low calorie? Does anyone know the answer?
