As Martin Van Creveld has pointed out, the Berlin Wall, similar to the Great Wall of China (for a few hundred years) and Israel's separation barrier, was a success in preventing bloodshed and war. Even Walt, yes that Walt, agrees with this assessment about the Berlin Wall, although I am not sure why he doesn't like Israel's separation barrier LOL.

After reading this but before clicking on the Honest Reporting link I was gonig to post a link to the same CBC article that they cite.

I was really quite shocked by the comparison they made and thought that, at best, it reflected poor journalism and ignorance and at worst, malice (thought I am hesitant to ascribe to malace what may be explained by stupidity.)

The comments that readers posted on that thread (as they always are on the CBC) are quite infuriating as well.

The separation wall was intended to save lives and keep terrorists out of Israel and keep Arabs and Jews apart. The Berlin Wall was built to keep a country captive. There is no comparison between the two and its factually inaccurate and morally obscene to make it.

1.) East Germans were firing rockets at West German kindergartens in acts of "legitimate resistance" against a faux West-German "occupation", or

2.) West Germany wanted to protect themselves from East Germans who considered West Germany Dar Al-East Germany because Josef Stalin wrote about flying up to Heaven from the Farthest Statist Gulag, which East Germans believed to have been Bonn. Therefore, East Germans believed that West Germany must be destroyed.....

In other news, large blocks of Phakestinians really wish they hadn't voted for Hamas, as they now have discovered the intrinsic truth about democracy: Elections have consequences. Not to mention, Phakestinians really regret rejecting the "Two-State Solution of 1948", offered by the UN, accepted by Jews, but rejected by Muslims.
