I don't think the charge is fair. Mailer's misogyny is beyond dispute, but I specifically said that he in fact a produced a substantial body of worthy literature. I don't see how my post can be read as a dismissal...
Yeah, but IIRC the Pod also conceded Adams' influence. The point is that a narrow tribal concern of identity is clearly all you both are concerned with.
Of course Mailer was a misogynist; of course Henry Adams was an anti-Semite. But these are not and should not be the first things one thinks of when dealing with the subject or indeed encountering the names.
Just as obviously, you're not NPod, and I apologise for the toxicity of the analogy. But I think you could be a leftwing NPod -- in other words, and Ann Bartow -- if you wanted. As I otherwise respect your work (well, except for your unhinged Nader bashing), I'd rather not see that happen.
