Needed peace? Don't get me started...
RIP Michael. I'll remember him fondly with The Jackson 5, and as Donny's rival for teen idol in the early 70's. That's about it.

I grew up with a love hate relationship with Michael. I think he was a seriously troubled individual broght on by a horrible home life. I think he did need peace and I never thought you would be so ignorant. But I guess I was wrong. Granted the media hype surrounding his death is ridiculous but had Elvis Presley died today it would have been the same.

One of my daughters friends is sitting in row 16 at the Staples center right now.

Andrea, I heard Jermaine say that his father wasn't that bad, and that MJ was a very sensitive person. Maybe his home life wasn't as terrible as he claimed. Only the family knows for sure!

And, yes, the media hype was in overdrive when Elvis died, too. It was all-Elvis, all the time for weeks, even months. At least there was no internet and there were no 24-hour entertainment cable stations back then to fuel the media fire.

Yeah but Jermaine wasn't the cash cow of the family was he. Its a shame that clan wasn't more like the Osmonds who seemed to produce a pretty well adjusted family even though they ran pretty neck and neck for superstardom back in the day.
But what I find odd is that they focus on him and the painkillers but they neglect to remind the world of why he was on them. He had Lupus, which could also tie into why he was likely anorexic. I have a friend with Lupus and any excess weight can leave the person in intense pain and she has the same weight obsession.
All the money in the world can't make a person well adjusted or mentally stable and I think he needed help from more than just a cardiologist or family doctor.
I can't imagine not knowing a normal life from the age of 10 to 50.

What does Jermaine not being the star have to do with it? He was there for the rehearsals and the recording, as were the other members of the five. He was witness to a lot.
My parents weren't demons at all, and one of the six of us is far more sensitive. Takes everything the wrong way. THe rest of us blow it off. So when parents yelled at us, for one reason or another (we deserved it every time!) one of us cried like a baby, the rest of us slinked off to our rooms to chill.
I wasn't there, so I can't speak for any of it. Joe may have been a monster, and he may have just been a tough parent with a super-sensitive kid. It's all guessing, since none of us were there, including the media!
Whatever physical ailments he suffered, I feel for that. If he became a drug addict because of it, then he made some really bad choices. Really bad. It's just a good thing he had a nanny for the kids. A drug-reliant parent is not the best thing.

I'll stop now. I'm just weary of the whole "MJ" deificattion going on all over the place.
I don't think the music brought about his demise, though, or it would mean early death for any big star. It takes quite a bit of stamina, discipline, fortitude, and commitment for any mega-star to stay in the spotlight and remain grounded. Michael didn't seem to handle it well. His demise could have been fueled by his world-wide fame, and the pressures he placed on himself to remain King.
Jackson sought out fame, and seemed to love being "The King Of Pop. " If he disliked the spotlight, he could have quit when entered adulthood and enjoyed the quiet life with his kids. He tried to move away and lay low after his acquittal, but he came back to the US! He didn't seem to be able to stay away.
I'm sorry I go on and on. I have come to a point in life where I see the folly in all of this fame-seeking, and I'm really tired of the lack of personal responsibilty for bad life choices. Everyone wants to blame something/someone else these days, when the answer is often right in the mirror. MJ paid a heavy price for his bad choices and it is, truly, sad.

First, thanks for making the theme for this week "good things" we'll remember about MJ. Here are my two:
1. Watching him do "The Robot" during the instrumental break of the J5 song "Dancing Machine"
2. The beginning of the DVD documenting the "Dangerous" tour in which Michael popped onstage as if he was a piece of toast being ejected from a toaster.
