I appreciate the Swish update. I've felted way too many socks in my day and almost exclusively buy superwash now. It'd be nice if superwash really meant that.

Well, at least you can still see the stitch pattern. Still, a bit disappointing.
Hope your studying goes well!

I'm NOT going to WEBS - I am trying to ignore the email they sent yesterday, telling me of their sale!
I now hand wash ALL my handmade socks - superwash or not - I don't even mind...in fact, I like it. My favorite part is hanging them out and looking at the pretty socks all lined up.

I don't mind a little fuzzing on handknit socks, esp since I fearlessly machine wash and (sometimes even) dry them, and expect to see some wear on socks. But the fuzzing is good to know about since I like to use superwash yarns for baby garments, and I do not like too much halo on sweaters.

After missing the huge Knit Happens sale (I saw a post about it on craftster far too late), I went immediately to Webs when I got their email and bought myself some cheap, coned Shetland.
That's too bad about the Swish, since it's so nice and squishy. I had high hopes for baby knits with that yarn. *sigh*

I am SO glad that you joined our team - and I'm sorry you had to borrow my kids' stinky shin guards. A 3-3 tie with the team that won the league last time out isn't bad at all! And I heard from the league director today that she's got two more players for our team. YAY!!!

Yay! I'm glad to find out that there are other soccer-playing knit bloggers out there. I thought Scout and I were the only ones in that demographic.

that's not too bad - I insist on being able to machine wash my socks - necessity! I take a sweater shaver to them every once and a while - works great!

This was my first time taking a look at your blog. First I would like to say Wow...exercise before knitting. I wish I had the motivation. Im trying to get there. I even went so far as to post my humilation on my new blog so in some sort of way I can hold myself accountable. Second, when you are knitting for your daughter's next winter sweaters I say go for the size she should be because most likely she will catch up. My daughter was small the first 9 months or so and then all of a sudden she was a chunky little baby and then started thinning out at two or so. It dependes, since the twins are drinkning VitD milk I started giving it to her again instead of the 1% and she is chunking out again. I didn't want to have two different milks in the fridge besides that my husband would always give her what he got first so it didn't make any difference. Anyway enough of that. I hoped that helped and I look forward to hearing exercise inspiration from you.

You call that fuzzing?? Well, I guess I need to check out the Opal, then!
Knitting has been particularly hard on my butt this winter. Well, knitting and beer.

I got the same halo when I first washed my Socks that Rock socks, and haven't put them in the washer again. I also put them in the dryer that first time though, so I'm not sure what did more damage, the washer or the dryer. Either way I'll be handwashing from now on! Thanks for the update about Swish, I had been wondering about it...

Yes, those socks turned out a little fuzzy, but honestly, it's not too bad. Especially since, after they've been worn a few times, they'll start to look like that anyway!

The fuzzing isn't too bad, although I see your point. I still love how those socks turned out though.

Bummer! I made a sweater for me out of the Swish. I haven't machine washed it yet, but I would have. I always put my machine washable sweaters in a lingerie bag and straight into the wash with cold water. I did wash my swatch that way and it wasn't bad... hmmm, do I risk it?

Hmmm...thanks for the heads up re: Swish. I also expect superwash to mean what it says, but have been too chicken to put any superwash socks through the machine yet.

thanks for posting all your tests! great stuff, and most helpful.
i've been knitting some baby gifts and wondering how they're going to hold up. you're absolutely right--if the label *says* I can machine wash and dry it, well, i should sure as heck be able to machine wash and dry it.
boy, do i hate hand-washing anything. and i'm sure no self-respecting mom wants to hand-wash baby stuff... (yeah, like you moms have time for *that*...)

Hey! Actually, you can burn 102 calories an hour knitting. Seriously! It's not a whole lot, but it's not the same as sleeping...
Check it out!
