how short your memory, how selective, how flawed your logic...
“Until Muslims learn to develop a sense of outrage about the things that really matter - like ‘Why don’t we have 50 Nobel Prize winners?’ or ‘Why do we countenance honor killings of women?’ or ‘Why do we tolerate the death-culture of suicide bombers and people who kill thousands of innocent human beings by flying planes into buildings?’ all of these protests ring hollow. Start acting like civilized human beings, and you will be treated as such. If you don’t, you will be cut off from the rest of the world and driven out of Europe and the Americas, back to your old enclaves in the sand.”
so ordinary Muslims are to blame that there are extremists within thir ranks.so does the same appy to christians, when Robertson calls for assination e.g or the Timithoy McVeighs of the world...'O'right thats different...
Muslims should learn to suck it up and write letters to the editors...???
like the christian extremist do.. right!
maybe christians should be concerned when their countries bomb and maim, but then those being bombed and maimed are those "others"
little bit of a double standard don't you think guy
first Muslims are told how to be,now their told how to react...just can't win
does the same apply to the dimwits and extremists of christianity
the vast majority of Muslims hurt no one, killed no one,nor would dream of.is it fair to hold Muslims up to a higher standard than you expect of us,obviuosly not...at least by your "standards"
many Muslims are victims of the same governments that we abhorr, what has that to do with Islam.Ruling elites have always used religion in distorted ways to retain their power.
The Koran I know bears little semblance to the Islam practiced and espoused by the Bin Ladens of the world, just as the bible bears little semblance to that preached by the Farwells and Robertsons of the world.

What you seem to be saying, Dirk, is that in the matter of the Cartoon Riots, the average Muslim is being blamed for the actions of radical Islamists. Fair enough. It is their actions that are visible. They are the ones burning businesses, holding up signs that threaten death to nonbelievers.
I know that there are many Muslims who, while being offended at the Danish cartoons, know that violence, murder and threats constitute an overreaction.
What disturbs me about the "Cartoon Jihad" is that it is occurring in the first place. There have been many instances of cartoons or other art that are blasphemous and/or offensive to Christians. Remember "Piss Christ"? But, while there was protest, there was no violence involved. And protests were directed at the artists and the museums that displayed the works, not at entire countries. You cannot hold an entire country responsible for the actions of a handful of people, especially where there is a free press involved.
What about the slanderous and obscene cartoons about Jews that appear daily in the Arab press? Some of those look like they have been lifted right out of the Third Reich. I don't see any mob violence over those.
You cite the examples of Pat Robertson and Timothy McVeigh. Pat Robertson issued his stupid pronouncements, and virtually everybody shouted him down and said he was a fool. Timothy McVeigh murdered 262 people and paid for it with his life; he was prosecuted, convicted, and executed for his crime. Where are the prosecutions of the people who burn embassies?
I'm not a big fan of fundamentalists of any stripe: Christian, Jewish, whatever. Every faith has its dimwits and extremists. It seems, however, that Islamic fundamentalists have done a better job of hijacking Islam than the Christian and Jewish right-wing nutcases have done in their respective communities.
My point was, why are people so outraged over a handful of infidel cartoons, when there is so much else they should be righteously indignant about within the Umma?
Oh - and remember the word "satire."
