" But now they tell a story of fear, flight, and ultimate redemption that is beyond the reach of a price tag."
And they tell the story of faith, courage and survival of the human spirit even in a place pretty short on humanity.
The boy who survived indeed - long life, Shanghai Steve!

I also am of the Tribe of Levi, so that'll be Mr. Chief Cook and Bottle Washer to you, bub. Also, since we're getting tribal, how's bout the more artisticly bent readers here whipping up a fine selection of tartans or some such for the various tribes? That'd be cool.

Redemption, yes... and proof in the face of those who say that the Holocaust never happened.

Denny - A lot.
There's Houston Steve, Steve "After Dinner" Mintz, Shanghai Steve, Steve F., Steve with the last name that sounds almost exactly like mine...and Stefan, which is just another way to say Steve. And me.
We call ourselves the Legion of Stevies.
Must've been a popular name back in the day...like "Jordan" and "Madison" today.

I am captivated and enthralled by these stories of survival, of faith, of life. Every time I think my life is rough or going bad, the stories of people like Steve remind me how blessed I am.

I was never aware of the Tribe thing in Judaism until the last Shivah I sat with our friend's family. The widow is a Levite. I had to do some research later to try to understand what the Rabbi was telling us. It was very interesting.
But Steve's story is... astounding. Absolutely. What a treasure to have as a friend.
And I perhaps was the only one aware that Jews had sought refuge in China. I want to know more.
