Lob a Chunk o' Feedback at Blog d'Elisson

Gravatar Guess what? New Brunswick Canada has a legal drinking age of.... TADA! 19! Guess we're on the leading edge of Elissonialism or something. Works here anyway. Of course I didn't think that at 18, but...

Gravatar Tough questions, to be sure, having been in Jersey when Jersey was 21 and New York was 18. It resulted in some pretty irresponsible (i.e. reckless) driving into NYC or north into New York State, I'm embarassed to say.

I am inclined to favor the number 21, but 19 might work for me. I have to think about it. No matter what, though, there should be a nationally-imposed exception for anyone who can prove that he or she is on active duty in the military.

Gravatar A long time ago, I heard that if you were tall enough to see over the bar, you were legal to drink in some European countries (I can't remember which ones unfortunately).

I think in a way, this is a really good idea. It completely removes the taboo of drinking.

Whenever anyone says you can't do it, can't have it, can't afford it, or it's illegal...everybody wants it!

I'm for fewer laws and better parenting. (Yes, I know, dream on...)

Gravatar Elisson, was that you puking out the window of Blair Tower that time? Right after mooning the campus with those fleshy cheeks? I thought you looked familiar! Maybe you should post a booty shot just so I can be sure...

Ah, the joys of college drinking, where the smell of magnolia and vomit scent the evening air!

Gravatar Your proposal is an excellent exersize of reason and logic. Unfortunately, the issue will be decided by politicians in the halls of government where reason and logic are supplanted by the desires of lobbyists.

Gravatar I'm finding it interesting that the same arguements used back when I was a teenager are still being used today.

In my case, I became "legal" when I was 18, and then, just as I turned 21, the age was raised to...21.

Gravatar I'm all for the 18 yr old limit.

It scared me as a parent of high school kids that they were going to go away to college... where alcohol consumption, illegal in bars and clubs, would be forced to private parties... and they'd have had no experience with drinking. IF the age limit was 18 and they could drink at home while still living there, I could have some direct influence on the choices they made, whereas once they are off at college I just have to hope they learn those lessons without endangering themselves.

Change it back to 18.

Gravatar I agree, sort of. Although lately I've been surrounded by 18 - 20 year olds, and I'm beginning to thing 25 should be the new legal limit for all of that. I swear up until then they think they know everything and they pull some of the dumbest shit.

Gravatar I think if you're of legal age to vote and serve in the military without the permission of a parent, you're old enough to drink.

Gravatar Omnibus: I agree with that argument -and I think they ought to raise the age for all of it if they do it for drinking.

Gravatar Why have a legal age at all? And if so why an arbitrary 18 or 21 or 25 or 16...

At what age do human children become adults? Why do we decide that a 14 year old boy who has wet dreams and shaves is still a child?

I fail to see the logic in it. When I was 19 years old I was sent to a place where I had to dodge a bullet or two..and when I got back to the land of the big Post Exchange I couldn't even legally buy a cold beer...nor cast a vote to get the sumbitch who sent me there out of office...

Now an 18 year old can vote..and get shot at..but still can't buy a drink of whiskey in most states..society says "we trust you to be cannon fodder and vote but we don't trust you enough to let you take a drink."

What a bunch of bull shit..

Gravatar "One day, one of my Demented Engineering Buddies got into the lab supply lockers and found 16 gallons of reagent-grade ethanol. Good night, Irene! It was time to par-tay!"

Gravatar Hoist on my own petard! Aiyeee!
