I can personally vouch for the fact that sufficient quantities of sake compensate for any dietary or other difficulties one might experience in Japan.

They do have bagels here in Kyoto. With flavors like green tea and white chocolate, strawberry and white chocolate...and their "everything" bagels include things like edamame beans...
