Savannah has a real nice New York-style pizza jernt called Allyanna's which I would order from time to time if I was in the mood for 'za. Sadly, all that consumption over the years has rendered my pizza cravings null and void.

If you ever get out to Los Angeles, you must go to Mozza. It's a tiny little place owned by Mario Batali and the people who own La Brea Bakery. It's very high end, but the pizza is to die for.
And as a side note, on Thursdays, La Brea Bakery has Grilled Cheese Night. OMG....you haven't lived until you experienced one of their grilled cheese soncoctions.

Ray's Original, baby! Although, I wasn't complaining about the Delmar's (on Sheepshead Bay Road) slices I had on Friday. Rumor has it they were the originators of the White Pie almost 30 years ago. My Dad used to rave about it.

Funny, I was thinking about the few ex-New Yorkers I knew (incliding yourself) when I hit this spot.

It was just as you described... Thin slightly chewy crust, good cheese/crust ratio... not too much sauce...
Hell, I may have to go back there tonight.

My uncle's pizza was always interesting to me as a child; he didn't use sauce. His parents were from Italy and he learned from them. His way was slices of cheese, onions, sweet peppers, and pepperoni on the crust and then baked. He said that when they only put sauce on a pizza when it was left over from something else. He also used a fairly thin crust, but it was always soft and chewy.

I think the crust is the best part. So usually we just have homemade pizza.

Joisey boardwalk pizza... nuff said. I've ruined entire wardrobes because of that stuff. The grease causes the cheese to slide all over the place, making getting it into your mouth without suffering agonizing hot cheese chin burns and not ruining yet another good shirt like trying to pick up an olive from the table with a spoon... on the deck of a rolling ship. at night.
damned good, though, once you actually get it in your maw, especially after the nerves in the roof of your mouth have become desensitized from being burned a few times...
I'm rambling. I'll go now.

Gregor, you have alluded to the dreaded Pizza Mouth Burn. I'm pretty sure the entire roof of my mouth is one thick layer of scar tissue by now, thanks to my penchant for inhaling slices of 'za fresh from the oven...
