Yep, I am going through the same thing right now...except that I have not found the energy nor ambition to tear it out and replace it...and I might just do what you say you are doing...put down another layer of plywood over the bad. problem is i have about 900 sq feet of it to do...and then comes the hard wood floors and as you say....all it takes is money...and lots of ambition and energy.
